Jack WattsAFTER a week in hell, the Demons have decided that their best chance at salvation this week is without the talented but much-maligned Jack Watts.

Announcing their team for Saturday afternoon’s game against the West Coast Eagles, Melbourne has omitted the first overall draft pick from the 2008 National Draft.

Per the Melbourne website, football manager Josh Mahoney said that the omissions had to occur based on Melbourne’s poor start to the season.

“Whenever you perform the way that we have over the last two weeks, there’s always going to be changes, and five people have been left out of the side this week, based on their performances over that period,” he said.

“Jack (Watts) has improved dramatically off the field, with the work he does in the gym and his running, and the work that he did over the pre-season.

“His form during the NAB Cup series was very good, but unfortunately over the last two weeks, he hasn’t performed at that level.”

The Demons subbed Watts off during the third quarter of last week’s shellacking by Essendon replacing him with David Rodan who has also been dropped for Round 3.

In total the Demons have made five changes, and four omissions  for the Eagles game with Watts, Rodan, Sam Blease, Daniel Nicholson and an injured Tom Gillies all out.

Taking their places in the team will be Neville Jetta, Cam Pedersen, Michael Evans, Luke Tapscott and Rohan Bail.

Let’s hope the team fares better this week against the winless Eagles at the MCG.
